Located on rue de la Roquette in Paris, the Alain Ducasse Coffee Factory marks a foundational step in the development of the chef's artisanal production facilities. Conceived as a place of production as much as of transmission, it brings together roasting, processing and tasting in a single space, open to the public and with its operations transparent.
The architectural project was developed in close collaboration with Alain Ducasse, around a shared objective: to give a built form to a demanding artisanal approach, based on mastery of technique, respect for materials, and transparency of processes. The architecture does not seek to create a striking effect, but rather complements the coffee-making process, revealing the stages of transformation and highlighting the tools, machines, and expertise involved.
The space is conceived as a contemporary workshop, raw and precise. The materials are chosen for their authenticity and durability, in a deliberately industrial and metallic style, directly echoing the world of production. This approach, however, finds a more fundamental reference in Pierre Chareau's Maison de Verre. As in this manifesto of modernism, the structure, the joinery, and the technical devices are made legible, without concealment or decoration. The metal, glass, and industrial elements are not merely for aesthetic purposes, but fully contribute to an honest architecture, where function and construction detail define the quality of the space.
