The Tsingoni nursery project originated from a design competition won by the Laforgue & Laforgue Architecture Workshop, in collaboration with Melti Architecture, founded by Mélissa Piret.
It addresses a key need in the region: to provide public facilities dedicated to early childhood, adapted to the tropical climate, local practices and contemporary environmental challenges.
A protective building, designed on a child's scale :
The architectural concept is based on a deliberately introverted building, organized around a central patio. This configuration allows for a hierarchy of spaces and degrees of privacy: enclosed entrance garden, forecourt, central patio with generous ceiling height, playrooms, and then rest rooms designed like cocoons.
The facades are protected by sunshades, ensuring both safety, climatic comfort and a reassuring perception of an enclosed space, adapted to the scale of children.
